We would like to thank all our followers for their kind words following the passing of Yvonne’s mother. Last week was very hard for Von, but now we have to get back to it again.
I received a phone call yesterday from a man who told me about his Grandfather and Great Uncle who fought at Pozieres. He was distressed when he was telling me about the effects on the family of what these Men had experienced in WW1.
These were Men who survived the Battle, but the trauma has echoed down through the decades in their family. It is not only the loss of a loved one in battle that is devastating, but the return of Men that have endured the horrors of war can have more damage within the family than if they had been lost.
I can only hope that what we are doing will help acknowledge to these families what their relatives went through, and that they will be able to get some closure.
Today is the 98th Anniversary of the Battle for Pozieres, and again the Government has chosen to ignore the Men.
A historic event occurs in Pozieres today, with the signing of a “Sister City” agreement between Ku-ring-gai Shire Council in Sydney and the Village of Pozieres.
Support for what we are doing is still coming in with a very generous donation from Bentleigh RSL in Victoria. We got a shock when we opened the email, but the support is very much appreciated.
In addition Bribie Island RSL Sub Branch became the first QLD Sub Branch to support the cause, followed closely by Goodna, Herbert River and Crows Nest RSL Sub Branches. Thanks to them all.
With it being the Anniversary today, we hope to get a few more radio interviews and news stories to get the word out about Pozieres.
We have to thank both Mark Parton from 2CC in Canberra and Chris Smith from 2GB for their support.
Again, many thanks for coming to our web page and I ask that you consider supporting us by buying a brick and helping us build the Park.
